The Steinbeis Innovation gGmbH (SIG) is part of the Steinbeis Foundation for Economic Promotion. Steinbeis was founded in 1971 and has 30 years of experience in technology transfer. In 2011 the Foundation runs 855 Steinbeis Enterprises worldwide including 475 Technology Transfer Centres which are mostly attached to research organisations to guarantee close connection between R&D and industry. Two of these centers are directly involved in this project: the Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum (SEZ) and the Steinbeis-Donau-Zentrum (SDZ).

Representatives of both centers are members in the Steering Group of Priority Area (PA) 8 "Competitiveness" of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region and jointly lead the Working Group "Technology Transfer" within PA 8. SEZ was founded in 1990. It is a member of the regional European Enterprise Network (EEN) and official NCP for SMEs in the region of Baden Wuerttemberg. The core activities of SEZ are to assist organisations to participate in European R&D projects, to support the management of international research projects, to give assistance in the exploitation of research results, to promote trans-national technology transfer, and to stimulate and support the innovation process in industrial companies.

The SEZ has experiences in organising workshops, conferences, brokerage events and trainings for technology transfer and innovation management, and finding partners for RTD-proposals. Founded in 2011, the SDZ supports the development of macro regional partnerships and projects, organises events to support and implement the EU Strategy for the Danube Region and offers consulting services for planning particular actions in this region.

The SEZ has been involved in more than 40 European projects, several of them connected to the CSA projects, thus ensuring a certain experience to this type of projects. Furthermore, the SEZ is currently involved in the FP7-INCO-2012-2, BILAT Project "Dragon-STAR". In the frame of the ESF-Project "Managerial and entrepreneurial skills development to enhance competitiveness for SMEs", the SEZ organises trainings on innovation management and transnational partnership as well as company visits in Romania.

Regarding the energy sector, SEZ is associated partner in the German co-location of the international Knowledge and Innovation Community KIC InnoEnergy. Besides, it is involved as partner or coordinator in the following projects: CONCERTO Premium (energy-efficient buildings), MobyPost (carbon neutral vehicle), TIPS (exploitation of innovative transport solutions) and e-Mobility (internationalisation of a regional e-mobility cluster). The SDZ initiated and supported the foundation of professional associations in the Danube Region, e.g. the Danube Renewable Energy Network and the Danube Innovation Union. SEZ and SDZ are jointly implementing the "Danube Innovation and Technology Transfer Centres" Project launched in the frame of the EU Danube Strategy.
