Innovative, collaborative, regional: Smart intellectual property for a competitive Europe

On 14 November 2019 the European Commission with the Finnish Presidency of the Council of the EU and the Committee of the Regions organises the one-day conference "Innovative, collaborative, regional: Smart intellectual property for a competitive Europe" in Brussels to explore how the EU and its regions can help SMEs to become more competitive and grow through the smart use of IP.

Participants will get the opportunity to listen to intellectual property (IP) professionals and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that will share their experience and knowledge. The European IP Helpdesk together with the China IPR SME Helpdesk representing the four existing IP Helpdesk services (incl. the Latin America and South-East Asia IPR SME Helpdesks) will join the conference and share insights into current IP challenges faced by SMEs.

Policy makers, public and private stakeholders (including innovation and development agencies, chambers of commerce and business consultants) are invited to contribute to the EU SME strategy on IP.

The conference features opening speeches by Karl-Heinz Lambertz, President of the Committee of the Regions, Timo Pesonen, Director-General of the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, and a representative from the Finnish Ministry of Economic Affairs. Markus Beyrer, Chairman of Business Europe will give the keynote speech and there will be 6 panel discussions:

  • Using IP to access growth funding
  • IP in partnerships for innovation and business growth
