Through a set of activities, the WP 3, led by CEI and focused on “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in a Bio-based Economy”, addresses the societal challenge “secure, clean and efficient energy” and builds upon three Tasks, namely:

  1. Task 3.1: identification of the most relevant Danube Region stakeholders in energy-related sectors (mapping)
  2. Task 3.2: promotion of clusters and networks among the mapped stakeholders (clustering and networking)
  3. Task 3.3: implementation of two Pilot Actions drawing from the achievements of the previous two tasks and aiming to support additional cooperation activities in the field of energy efficiency, renewable energy and the bio-based economy in the Danube Region

In the context of Task 3.2, the Danube-INCO.NET consortium will organise a number of Clustering Workshops and networking activities that shall accompany the process of submission and selection of proposals for the two Pilot Actions of Task 3.3.

In this regard, the 1st Clustering Workshop will be organised in Trieste (Italy) by the Central European Initiative (CEI) on 3 February 2015. This event will focus on the European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) as a legal framework for the establishment of networks of Research Infrastructures.

The main objective of the Workshop is to inform selected participants on the European Research and Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) as a legal framework meant to facilitate and promote transnational cooperation among Research Infrastructures. The European Commission, invited as speaker, will provide an overview on the application process as outlined in the Council Regulation 723/2009.

Moreover, participants will be informed on best practices, success stories and case studies, such as the Central European Research Infrastructure Consortium (CERIC-ERIC), i.e. the only ERIC having its statutory seat in Italy, namely in Trieste, and the Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS), whose application for establishing an ERIC is currently under evaluation by the EC.

Furthermore, since the Clustering Workshops included in Task 3.2 are functional to the submission of proposals for Task 3.3 Pilot Actions, participants will be informed on the procedure for the evaluation and selection of the said Pilot Actions, which will be funded from the Danube-INCO.NET budget.

The 1st Clustering Workshop will address a multifaceted target group, including ERIC National Contact Points, as well as representatives of line ministries involved in the ERIC application process, national innovation centres and research infrastructures.

Participation upon invitation only.
